GSM/GPRS: a wide area network
Whereas the traditional activities of logistics proceed in limited size areas: hub, hall or even small store, the activities of transport are spread out at the country level, and cannot be covered any more by local radio systems such as Wifi 802.11b or Bluetooth. At the same time, the need to be connected in real time remains in order to provide the information system with an up-to-date image of the delivery process: acknowledgment of delivery of the actually distributed parcels, delays implying a modification of the round, errors on the contents of an parcels, observation of breakage or deterioration of parcel, etc. The data transmission by GSM/GPRS, which covers the nearly the whole territory, meets this requirement.
TXcom proposes standalone or hybrid GSM/GPRS solutions based on mobile phones.

Simplicity for a reduced investment
During his rounds, your driver is equipped with a portable terminal EPSILON 2 Bluetooth, and with a Bluetooth mobile phone, dedicated to the data communications (machine to machine) and installed in the lorry cab or in his pocket.
During the deliveries, the driver scans the parcels; the information collected is stored into the terminal. When the driver comes back in the lorry cab, the Bluetooth connection is automatically activated. The information stored throughout the EPSILON 2 is sent to the mobile phone. The latter transfers by SMS the information to the operating system, throughout the information processing centre of the telephone cellular carrier. The SMS data are then sent to a dedicated server and transferred directly into your computer system. In that way, you can check all the deliveries mistakes, control the hours of delivery and any other functionality linked to transport.
In case of change in the initial deliveries round, the driver is notified by receiving a SMS directly on the EPSILON 2.

The PDA with a wide palette of functions
The new PREMIOM PDA advantageously gathers several functions in only one case. For a typical transport application, the PREMIOM can embed:
- the GPRS: a higher data rate than the GSM and pay-per-Kbyte invoicing
- a laser barcode reader,
- a touch screen to gather and record the recipient signatures digitally,
- a digital 1.3 Mega pixels camera to take picture in the event of damaged parcels,
- a Bluetooth® connection to print delivery receipt on a Bluetooth®-compatible printer,
- a thin client to use the legacy applications even while being out-of-the-office by several hundreds of km.
